Down Syndrome Association of Houston's Gala spotlights some truly inspiring individuals; their children

The Down Syndrome Association of Houston is proud to announce that the 2nd Annual DSAH, "Evening With The Stars" Gala, will be held on Saturday October 4, 2008 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in Downtown Houston, benefiting the Down Syndrome Clinic of Houston at Texas Children's Hospital. The Clinic has been aiding local families since 2006 and at this year's gala a special performance will be given in recognition of all the organization has done to help children with Down syndrome reach their full potential. In partnership with Theatre Under The Stars Humphrey's School of Musical Theatre, 10 children will perform a Broadway Musical Review.
After a whole month of preparation, five children from the Down Syndrome Association of Houston, and five children from the Humphrey's School of Musical Theatre will partner to perform a medley of classic Musical Theatre numbers. "Rehearsals and performances enhance social skills of any child, and this type of physical and social participation is especially positive for children with Down syndrome. As the kids interact with the teacher and their peers they establish friendships and become part of a larger group." said Rosa Rocha, DSAH President.
The Clinic is committed to the advancements in research and education directly related to the quality of life of children with Down syndrome and has provided complete evaluations of hundreds of children over the past two years. In partnership with The Baylor College of Medicine, The Down Syndrome Association of Houston opened The Clinic in 2006, bringing much needed support and innovative recourses to Houston area families. Currently operating at full capacity and in great need of expansion, The Clinic relies on the annual DSAH Gala for continued funding and support. The "Evening With The Stars" Gala will feature a silent auction in addition to the children's performance. All funds raised will be dedicated solely to the advancement of The Clinic's mission.
